Dhading Village Extension - Emerging Nepal

Dhading Village Extension

Though situated nearby from the Capital City of Kathmandu, Dhading Village is considered as one of the under - developed and isolated villages in Nepal. Dhading Village is located along the edge of Kathmandu Valley and lies inside the Bagmati Zone where the Capital lies. Though the Village is under developed in terms of infrastructure and development, nature has shown its generosity to the Village by providing it with diverse weather, different vegetation along with several species of flora and fauna. Dhading Village Extension is a new type of trekking that has been opened in the recent times with the intention of introducing the place and the region to the visiting tourists. The trekking encompasses diverse caste, ethnicities and their old cultures that has almost lasted for centuries.

Dhading area extends from 27º 40' N - 28º 14' N on the Latitude and 84º E - 85 º 1’ East on the Longitude. The village is surrounded by Gorkha district in the west, Kathmandu and Nuwakot in the east, while Makawanpur in the South and Chitwan and Rasuwa districts in the north. Ganesh Himal Peak which is 7409 meters tall from the sea level is located at Tipling VDC of the district and the peak happens to be the major highlight of the Village Extension trip. Administratively, Dhading Village Extension or the whole district is divided into 13 regions that consist of 50 VDCs in total. Each VDC is divided into 9 wards while every single ward comprises of 1 to 4 clusters depending upon the population density.

The major marginalized ethnic communities in the district are Kumals (1.2%), Chepangs (3%), Dalits (9%), Tamang (19%). As they have been marginalized for years, the communities have low socio-economic status as they lag behind the major population and the ethnicity of Brahmin and Chhetri in the district. Apart from observing the life style of people and getting the cultural aspect of it, Dhading Village Extension is a good destination trekking as well. The trip requires 4 to 6 hours, considering the traffic and seeing the conditions of the Highway. Rivers like Trishuli, Budhi Gandaki and others pass through the district. Moreover, Dhading Village Extension provides the panoramic views of the Mountains like the well-known Ganesh Himal and others; several beautiful lakes like Ganga and Jamuna and other various waterfalls along the way.

Cultural variation is another key aspect of Dhading district. Mostly Hindus live in the lower region of the district where as the higher areas boast of a huge variety of racial groups, mainly the Tibetan Buddhists with their rich cultural and religious history. Nepali and Tamang are the key languages that are spoken in the village as several ethnic groups like Magar, Gurung live in the region. Agriculture still happens to be the major source of occupation of the people in the village.

Nuwakot/Dhading/Gorkha Village Tour is a combined tour of the villages of three neighbouring districts of Nuwakot, Dhading and Gorkha. It is a short itinerary situated nearby from the Capital City of Kathmandu and the village tour serves as a nice opportunity for the visitors to walk and explore along the local villages in the district. The villages and the districts are not that popular from tourism perspective; however, they serve as great way to learn more about the culture, people and local tradition of the villages living in the area.
